In honor of this glorious holiday, consider boycotting the commercial weight-loss industry, more appropriately known as the "weight-cycling industry." Up to 95 percent of diets fail, yet the diet industry rakes in billions a year. Can you think of any other industry with a 95% failure rate that thrives like this?
A few facts:
According to ABC News:
—108 million Americans are on a diet at any given time (nearly 1/3 of the population)
—85 percent of those "consuming weight-loss products and services" are women. Surprise!
According to ASDAH (Association for Size Diversity and Health):
—"up to 95% of dieters regain the weight they lost, and sometimes more, within 3 years"
—"five pounds 'underweight' is more dangerous than 75 pounds 'overweight'"
—"81% of 10-year-olds admit to dieting, binge eating, or a fear of getting fat"
—"restrictive dieting and weight cycling can lead to physical complications including slowed metabolism, reduced muscle tissue and body temperature, and eating disorders"
